Recently the Garden was notified of a bequest intention from one of our members. We are grateful for this generous gift and for the donor's belief in our mission of creating experiences with plants that inspire people and improve the world.
The donor wishes to remain anonymous but is allowing us to share her story. Let's call her "Sarah" for the sake of the story. Growing up, Sarah's family taught her to love and respect the natural world. As a long time, Garden member, she studied the garden's designs and plant collections and over time created her own magnificent gardens at home. Visiting NEBG throughout the seasons continues to bring her joy and a sense of wellbeing.
Sarah has meaningful connections to a number of charitable organizations. When it came time to create an estate plan, she thought her impact could be greatest by making two larger gifts rather than spreading her charitable gifts among many organizations. Sarah thoughtfully visited and spoke to staff at the organizations she was connected to and discussed their current and future plans, challenges, and leadership.
About a year later, Sarah called to tell us she has included a gift to New England Botanic Garden in her estate plans. She said our values align with hers and that she trusts we will spend the money wisely. That is an honor we do not take lightly. In the past the Garden has used contributions from donors like Sarah to expand education programs, invest in sustainable technology, and create Gardens for all to enjoy.
We appreciate Sarah's generosity and careful approach to her estate planning. If you or a family member would like to discuss your hopes for the Garden's future and how your support could help, I would welcome the opportunity to meet with you.

P.S. The amazing dragonfly photo above was submitted by NEBG member, Cheryl Rose. She was one of the winners of the Garden's spring photo contest!
